Differentiation in Action with Nursery Rhymes to Go plus a Freebie!

I have a great blog post to share with you from Marsha at A Differentiated Kindergarten entitled, Look what I found . . . Differentiated Reading Done For You and a FREEBIE!

This is a such a great resource showing how she used The Funny Farm to differentiate instruction in her classroom.  She outlines four days of lesson plans and includes a freebie of her own to go along with the book.

Here’s a sneak peak of day 1… click to view all the differentiated lesson plans:

I am always so excited to see how others are using my materials to teach their children.  I hope this gives you some inspiration for your own classroom.  :)  All of the books in the KinderReaders series feature four reading levels plus a wordless version so the differentiation is done for you!  Every child in your class can read the same story on his or her own level.

Old MacDonald Had a Farm Printables… E-I-E-I-O!

It’s time for more free nursery rhyme printables!

Today’s freebie is for Old MacDonald Had a Farm.  I had a lot of fun with this one!   There are 23 pages in this download.  It includes strips for assembling the rhyme in a pocket chart, for mounting on posterboard, etc.  There is also an individual size sheet.

The clipart I used for this set is by the very talented KPM Doodles.  Isn’t it the cutest?

The Nursery Rhymes to Go guided reading title designed to go along with Old MacDonald is The Funny Farm!

I have some ideas for other Old MacDonald printables, so stay tuned!  If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them as well.  :)

Speaking of fun, I forgot to mention that when I was creating the Shoo Fly printables, I literally had the most annoying fly buzzing around me.  Oh, the irony!  I taught the song to my girls the next day (instead of freaking out when a fly was buzzing), and it was so fun to hear my 3 year old singing from the other room.  If you listen to the YouTube video linked from the Shoo Fly page, it will be hard to get the tune out of your head!

Don’t miss yesterday’s freebie:  Humpty Dumpty printables

Have you maxed out your entries for the Nursery Rhymes to Go giveaway yet?  You have until May 6 at 11 pm CT to enter!

The Nursery Rhymes to Go Series Returns!

At long last, the Nursery Rhymes to Go series has been revived! These new versions feature updated illustrations that we think you and your students will love.

These books are written by Krissy Miner.  They utilize the multi-level KinderReaders system so you’ll have four levels plus a wordless version for each title!

I couldn’t wait to tell you about these two new titles.  We have another title for use with “Shoo Fly!” coming soon.

The Funny Farm Multi-Level KinderReaders Book for Use with Old MacDonald Had a Farm

This farmer thinks he knows everything there is to know about his farm. Little does he know, there are some prehistoric secrets just waiting to be revealed.

The Funny Farm can be used with the following themes:  Old MacDonald, farm, farm animals, dinosaurs

Cracked Up Multi-Level KinderReaders Book for use with Humpty Dumpty

We all know Humpty, but have you ever wondered what’s actually inside that egg? Read the adventures of Humpty at the park and you will never look at this nursery rhyme the same again once you find out what’s in the egg.

Cracked Up can be used with the following themes:  Humpty Dumpty, eggs, bird life cycle, oviparous animals

Standard Book Levels!

The KinderReaders series uses a simple leveling system that ranks each version of the text in order from most to least difficult.  This means a level 1 in one title may not be the same as a level 1 in another title.

NOW we have a new leveling correlation chart that will allow you to zero in on the guided reading levels for each title!   You’ll find correlations for standard leveling systems such as Reading Recovery, Fountas & Pinnell, DRA, grade level, and basal level, along with word counts.

Most titles remain unchanged, however, some of the texts were changed slightly to fit leveling criteria.  You can check the leveling chart and those noted with a * are the ones that were changed.

Click here to find all the new leveling information.

New Editions

I continue to work on updating the books in the original series with new illustrations and new format. It is a slower process than expected, but we are almost done. The new books have lesson plan help, word cards, sequencing cards, and a big book. I hope you are enjoying them!

That’s all for now!

Sandi
